Last month, the Certificate IV Outdoor Recreation students got kitted up and hit the Tassie Mountain Biking trails for the first time this year.
Four excellent days were spent learning the fundamentals of Mountain Biking in a guiding context, these skills were tested with some laps around Glenorchy and Clarence Mountain Bike park. The trip ended on a high consolidating some of our new-found skills on the Clarence Mountain Bike Park PUMP TRACK!
Special thanks to Gemma Gooley and Richard Guy for a very well planned first week on the trails!
Several weeks ago, the TasTAFE Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation students were treated to three consecutive days of Mountain Biking, combined with camping at Kellevie in South Eastern Tasmania.
This was their final mountain biking experience to hone and polish the skills they had learnt in previous weeks.
Students spent the week riding technical fire roads and cross-country style single-track. From here, they practiced changing their weight distribution, cornering in tight switchbacks, keeping an optimal cadence, and learnt how to tackle some daunting trail obstacles such as drops, small jumps, and chutes.
It was encouraging to see many students progressing in their confidence and skill levels, all thanks to the guidance and constant support of our mountain bike guide Gemma Gooley, and our teacher Renee Harrington. Thank you for your patience and for providing a great week away!
