Nate Welch

Nate in Peru

Nate joined our team in 2014 and brings an incredible amount of outdoor experience with him.  He moved to Tasmania from Queensland in 2011 to undertake the Certificate III & IV in Guiding and progressed through to the Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation.  Nate currently Coordinates the Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation and shares his vast experience with his students.  His practical knowledge and adventure tourism industry experience is underpinned with a strong educational foundation.

For the past six years Nate has worked as an outdoor instructor for a number of schools across Australia.  He has also been a guide, trainer and operations manager for a number of businesses in Australia and Africa.  In Tasmania, he has worked at the Hobart City Council as an Interpretation Officer and he also owns and operates – Wild Journeys, a commercial adventure tourism business.

Nate has attained all the relevant qualifications needed to teach and coordinate at this level and retains currency of his skills on a regular basis.

Nate has accomplished the following achievements:

  • Sea Kayak crossing of Bass Strait – 2013
  • Tasmanian Polytechnic Student of the Year Award – 2011
  • Australian Adventurer of the Year Nominee – 2008 (Outer Edge/Roving Eye)
  • Expedition Leader and Coordinator – Expedition Amazonas 2007/2008. The fourth team in history to successfully complete a full source-to-sea expedition of the Amazon River (6400 kilometres).
