Graduate Profile : Daniel Moss

Daniel Moss

Where are you currently working?  I am currently working as a Sea Kayak Guide in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand (South Island)

What do you love most about your job?  I love the way guiding allows me to work without limiting my love and passion for travel around Tasmania and the rest of the world.  Instead of having to choose between work or travel, Guiding work has opened fantastic opportunities in some pretty incredible places.

What training did you undertake with TasTAFE?  I undertook the Certificate III and IV in Adventure Guiding in 2011 and completed the Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation in 2012.

What did you value about your training at TasTAFE?  Meeting other like-minded individuals, both classmates and instructors, and seeing how those connections turn into work opportunities and epic personal missions down the track.

How has your training helped you with your Guiding career?  The TasTAFE programs give you such a good base for a career in Guiding.  When you start working at a new job or in a new location so often you are falling back on those basic guiding principles you learn at TasTAFE.

What is your most memorable moment you have experienced on a trip?  The kind of euphoric  feeling of finishing a really long journey (Pacific Coast Trail, French Pyrenees GR10, Crete)

If you could invite anyone on a trip, who would it be?  Clichéd I am sure, but Bob Brown.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone contemplating a career in the outdoors, what would it be?  If being and working in the outdoors is really what makes you happy, just take the chance and get into the industry … it is very rewarding.
